Part of SoAR’s mission is outreach, which usually takes the form of launches presented for Scouts or other youth groups (or them attending our launches when convenient), but we have an opportunity to support the Georgia Wing of the Civil Air Patrol with their statewide Rocket Challenge. The only day they could schedule was the second Saturday of August, which coincides with our normal day for a launch at Mill Springs. So, we’re moving the August 13 launch to Loganville to provide a rare launch opportunity for people on the east side of Metro Atlanta. The CAP is holding their launch on a roughly 800′ by 700′ field behind the American Legion post on highway 78, and we will have use of it exclusively from noon to 4 PM on Saturday, August 13 while the CAP participants are inside building their rockets (Alpha III’s and LoadStars). From 4 to 7PM, the CAP Cadets will fly their new creations while we help, and we’ll be able to continue flying in between their flights.
If you would like to help with the CAP portion of the launch, contact Jorge so that he can get you a LoadStar (which you are expected to build).
Obviously, with the close proximity of the field to a busy highway, retail, and residential areas, safety will be paramount. Do not outfly the field, and leave your untested designs at home.
