November Mill Springs Launch Saturday

November Mill Springs Launch Saturday

Mostly sunny skies, and breezy wind (10 mph gusting to 20) with slightly chilly temps await the rocket flying faithful on Saturday at Mill Springs Academy from 11AM to 4PM (note the new fall/winter hours). This is our low power launch, where we recommend altitudes no higher than 1000′ (usually no more than D power level).

As always, the public is invited to watch, or join in!

A couple of Boy Scout packs will be flying eariler in the day, at 8AM and 9AM under SoAR tutelage. If you’d like to help out and get in a few early launches yourself, meet with Jorge at 6AM at the Eggs Up Grill, 270 Rucker Rd., Alpharetta, Ga. 30004, or show up at the field at 7AM to help set up.

Turkey & GRITS in Two Weeks

Turkey & GRITS in Two Weeks

Online registration ends two weeks from tonight. Cost to attend both days is $35, while the single day fee is $20.

Rocketeers from all over the south are getting ready to attend Turkey & GRITS 2022 in Nashville, GA just outside of Tifton, GA, on Thanksgiving Weekend. All types of hobby rockets will take to the skies: model rockets, mid power, and high power up to 14000 feet!

Registration is now open. Cost to attend both days is $35, while the single day fee is $20.

Finally! Great Weather For A Mill Springs Launch Today!

Finally! Great Weather For A Mill Springs Launch Today!

SoAR gets back to Mill Springs Academy today from 9 AM to 2 PM after a three month absence caused by weather and a special event. Mostly sunny skies, slightly breezy (best winds will be 6 mph early, increasing to 9 mph with gusts to 15 by afternoon, all coming from the northeast), temperatures in the 60’s most of the time; should be perfect for a club launch. This is our low power launch, where we recommend altitudes no higher than 1000′ (usually no more than D power level).

As always, the public is invited to watch, or join in!

SoAR Dawsonville Launch Coming Up This Saturday

SoAR Dawsonville Launch Coming Up This Saturday

SoAR’s next launch happens this Saturday at our Dawsonville/Ball Ground site from 9AM – 2PM.

This is our mid-power field, where rockets up to G power can be flown. It is very hilly, and cow-patties abound, hidden in the tall grass in the recovery area, so pick your shoes accordingly. Spectators are always welcome. If you’ve got a rocket, come fly it with us.

Looks like we’ll have a clear day for this launch, with temps rising through 70 up to 77 by launch’s end. The wind will be shifting through the day from east to south at 5 mph.
