The National Association of Rocketry (NAR) holds three big national events each year.
The first event is NARCON, the yearly convention. This year it will be held online, January 28-30. Sessions from the 2021 NARCON are now available to watch on the NAR’s YouTube Channel. Particularly recommended is the video tour of the Estes factory..
The National Sport Launch (NSL) will be held Memorial Day weekend, 2022, near Sumter, South Carolina by the ROSCO section, with a 7000′ waiver.
Finally, the big event, NARAM-63 Rocketry Festival, will be held in Springfield, MO (flying field in Walnut Grove) from July 16 to July 22. The clubs presenting it will be Launch Crue, St. Louis Rocketry Association, and Tripoli Mo-Kan. There will be a 10000′ waiver all week.

The National Weather Service says the weather today should be “Mostly Sunny—But…” there’s a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorm during the period of SoAR’s launch from Mill Springs Academy on Saturday from 9 AM – 2 PM. Low rainfall amount predictions say that any such rain will be highly scattered. Temperatures should be around 80 with the relative humidity rising from 70% to nearly 100%. Winds will be west-northwest from 5-8 mph.
Mill Springs is our low-power field, suitable for rockets that fly no more than 1000 feet or so. We recommend a maximum of “D” impulse, but experienced rocketeers can and have flown big rockets with up to “G” power on this field. You never know!
As always, the public is welcome to watch or join in.

It is time for the July RocketTalk meeting at Tuxford Swim & Tennis Club (same place, new name) in Alpharetta this Thursday evening from 7:00 PM to about 9 PM.
The RocketTalk meeting is where we bring projects to show and techniques to share, and just talk rockets. We cover everything: build questions and techniques; motors; recovery; new and old models; high and low power; model rocket history; real rockets: etc., etc. etc. If it has anything to do with rockets, we love it!!!! You are guaranteed a few minutes of floor time… so bring your latest projects, questions, ideas, finds, complaints, recipes, clean jokes, ocarina improvisations, etc.
For those who are still uncomfortable with in-person meetings, are unvaccinated, or just can’t get to the meeting, we will still have a remote component to the meeting. We will have a TV, laptop, and web cam at the meeting and those who wish can log onto Zoom and participate from home. Just go to the RocketTalk page and click the big blue button.

SoAR’s June launch at the pasture between Ball Ground and Dawsonville will be this Saturday, from 9 AM to 2 PM.
This is our mid-power field, where rockets up to G power can be flown. It is very hilly, and cow-patties abound, hidden in the tall grass in the recovery area, so pick your shoes accordingly. Spectators are always welcome. If you’ve got a rocket, come fly it with us.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON WEATHER UPDATE! Rain chance during the launch has mostly gone away! Weather should be partly sunny with temperature in the mid 70’s, and winds from 3-6 mph from the east turning southeast. Relative humidity will be around 70% so it will be a little muggy.
