NO LAUNCH DUE TO STORMS
Join us for the June Mill Springs launch is this Saturday at Mill Springs Academy from 9AM – 2PM. The weather should be partly sunny, with a chance of thunder showers and gusty winds of 10+ mph mostly from the northwest
Mill Springs is our low-power field, suitable for rockets that fly no more than 1000 feet or so. When the winds are under 10 mph, with the direction either east or west, you can go a little higher. When the winds are over 10 mph, you may want to keep them to lower altitudes, and either reef your parachutes, or switch to streamers. We recommend a maximum of “D” impulse, but experienced rocketeers can and have flown big rockets with up to “G” power on this field. You never know!
As always, the public is welcome to watch or join in.
The clubhouse where SoAR normally holds the monthly RocketTalk meeting is being remodeled and we haven’t found an alternative site, so please join us Online at 7 PM this Thursday, June 9. You can get to the meeting on the RocketTalk page and click the big blue button.
The National Association of Rocketry’s National Sport Launch (NSL 2022) is being held in Dalzell, SC, May 28 through May 30 presented by the Rocketry Organization of South Carolina (ROSCO). You can go to https://nar.org/site/nsl-2022/ for more information and to register.
NSL is the NAR’s biggest sport launch with a couple hundred or more attendees. You can fly any rocket that conforms to the NAR’s safety codes, and you see lots of rockets of all sizes and shapes. The site itself is a sod farm, so it’s like launching from your front yard!
The May RocketTalk meeting will be held Thursday evening, May 12, at Kevin Scholberg’s Garage at 925 Kestrel Cove in Alpharetta from 7PM – 9PM (just around the corner from the usual location, Tuxford Swim & Tennis Clubhouse). If you can’t make it there in person, you can log into Zoom by clicking the Big Blue Button on the RocketTalk page.
RocketTalk gets you up to date with the going-on in the club and the hobby, learn new techniques, and gives you your 5-10 minutes to ask questions and show off your projects.
