Join us this Saturday at the pasture between Ball Ground and Dawsonville from 9 AM to 2 PM for the April Dawsonville launch.
This is our mid-power field, where rockets up to G power can be flown. It is very hilly, and cow-patties abound, hidden in the tall grass in the recovery area, so pick your shoes accordingly. Spectators are always welcome. If you’ve got a rocket, come fly it with us.
Looks like we’ll have a clear day for this launch, with temps rising through 70 up to 77 by launch’s end. The wind will come from the southeast at 5-8 mph.

On April 9th SoAR will have a launch featuring high power (but including model rocket and mid-power!) at Creekside Farms in Taylorsville. The launch will start at 9 AM and halt at 5 PM. There will be no on-site motor vendor at this launch.
Current forecast is for mostly sunny skies with a high near 58, under 50 before noon, but high winds out of the west-northwest at 10-13 mph before noon, and ovee 14 mph in the afternoon with gusts to 26.
A reminder that model and mid-power rockets are welcome at this launch as well! Maximum altitude for high power rockets is 5500 feet above ground level. If a rocket goes off range, you must come get the field liaison before attempting to recover your rocket.
The flight fee for this launch will be $15. We must pay the field owner for the use of the field. You can come and just watch for free as always.
Fliers are expected to sign up for range duty
- Launch Control Officer (LCO) – No certification required. You should have some experience running LCO
- Range Safety Officer (RSO) – You must be at least level 2 certified by NAR/TRA/CAR.
- Pad Assignment – You must be alive and not have any contagious disease!
- Range Setup – Any entity may do pad setup…heartbeat preferred
- Range Take Down – Like range setup
- Registration Table – Age 16 and up. This is just collecting launch fees and handing out bracelets.
If no one shows up for setup, we will start late. If no one stays for take down, Jorge will be late for the next couple of launches. If we have open spots for LCO or RSO, the launch stops until someone volunteers.

The latest forecast for Saturday is just a bit crazy considering the weather for the past couple of weeks. Saturday is going to be extremely cold and extremely windy, with temps ranging from 27 to 36 degrees, and constant wind over 20 mph (i.e. we would not be able to launch at all, even if sunny). So the launch is cancelled. Take the extra time to build a new kit or fix up any broken rockets!
We’ll see you in two weeks at Taylorsville!

The first SoAR Launch at Dawsonville for 2022 occurs this Saturday at the pasture between Ball Ground and Dawsonville from 11 AM to 4 PM.
This is our mid-power field, where rockets up to G power can be flown. It is very hilly, and cow-patties abound, hidden in the tall grass in the recovery area, so pick your shoes accordingly. Spectators are always welcome. If you’ve got a rocket, come fly it with us.
Looks like we’ll have a mostly cloudy day for this launch, with temps around 55. There’s a slight chance of light rain in the morning, but it shouldn’t interfere much. The wind will come from the north at less than five MPH.
