It is time for the September RocketTalk meeting at Tuxford Swim & Tennis Club in Alpharetta this Thursday evening from 7:00 PM to about 9 PM.
The RocketTalk meeting is where we bring projects to show and techniques to share, and just talk rockets. We cover everything: build questions and techniques; motors; recovery; new and old models; high and low power; model rocket history; real rockets: etc., etc. etc. If it has anything to do with rockets, we love it!!!! You are guaranteed a few minutes of floor time… so bring your latest projects, questions, ideas, finds, complaints, recipes, clean jokes, ocarina improvisations, etc.
For those who are still uncomfortable with in-person meetings, are unvaccinated, or just can’t get to the meeting, we will still have a remote component to the meeting. We will have a TV, laptop, and web cam at the meeting and those who wish can log onto Zoom and participate from home. Just go to the RocketTalk page and click the big blue button.

The sixth edition of what was originally called the ‘Tifton Turkey Launch’ will be held once again this year at the field near Nashville, GA, just southeast of Tifton, on the weekend after Thanksgiving Day, specifically November 27 and 28. Everything remains the same from last year, with a 14000′ AGL max altitude limit for high power rockets (NAR rules) and of course the opportunity to fly any rocket whether low-, mid-, or high power. For all details, and to register, visit the website at https://gritslaunch.com .

In lieu of a second launch this month, Jorge Blanco is welcoming us into his home to celebrate his birthday (more or less) this Saturday (though his birthday is Monday) from 10AM to 2PM. There will be Chick-Fil-A nuggets, chips, soft drinks (non-diet!), and ice cream cake.
Why show up (aside from the food)?:
- Silent Auction: Parachutes and Motor Cases. A 29mm 60-12 is going to start at $20. A 38 & 54mm cases (no closures will go for $30-50). Parachutes up to 6 feet will be bargains. A silent action is where an item for auction is placed where it can be inspected with a bid sheet. Bidders write their name on the bid sheet and bid either the minimum (if no one else has bid) or $1 more than the prior high bid. At the end of the action, the high bidder pays up and takes their item.
- Free rockets. I got a massive collection of expertly finished rockets from Leonard Boswell and a couple of other people. He wants these rockets given away. These are Mid through Clustered high power rockets. One of the rockets to be given away is Steve Corrigal’s Bucky Jones….beautiful rocket! Please take only what you can fly (if you have no high power certification, don’t take a rocket with a 54mm mount….your family will hate you)
Location:
12110 Brookfield Club Dr.
Roswell, Ga. 30075-1264
Look for a large rocket in the front yard and/or the club banner.

Come on out to SoAR’s launch from Mill Springs Academy on Saturday from 9 AM – 2 PM. Weather should be mostly sunny but there will be a 50% chance of thunder showers. Temperatures should be in the mid 80’s. Winds will be light and variable.
Mill Springs is our low-power field, suitable for rockets that fly no more than 1000 feet or so. We recommend a maximum of “D” impulse, but experienced rocketeers can and have flown big rockets with up to “G” power on this field. You never know!
As always, the public is welcome to watch or join in.
