Once again, the weather forecast is threatening, for the SoAR Launch at Dawsonville tomorrow. We will start earlier at 9AM and go until a far past noon as we can before the rain sets in. The ceiling starts at 1500′ with calm winds. As always, check the website before you leave for the launch tomorrow. The Dawsonville site is our midpower site, where worries about altitude are normally less, though tomorrow the 1500′ ceiling will limit altitudes).
We are GO for launch this Saturday, June 13, from 11AM to 4PM at Mill Springs Academy. Beautiful weather is in the forecast with six mph winds from the northeast.
We will be continuing with social distancing and masking requirements (wear a mask when at prep table and at safety check/launch control, and when interacting with others. Remember, you’re protecting them, and they’re protecting you). We’ll also be continuing with the Electronic Flight Card system (sign up at soarrocketry.org/cards ). And we will have individual launch pads at least six feet apart.
This is our low-power field (we recommend altitudes of no more than 1000 feet to assure you getting your rocket back), but if you know what you are doing it is possible to fly mid power successfully.
The next RocketTalk meeting is Thursday night on Zoom at 7 PM. Check the RocketTalk page for the connection info.
The RocketTalk meeting is where we bring projects to show and techniques to share, and just talk rockets. We cover everything: build questions and techniques; motors; recovery; new and old models; high and low power; model rocket history; real rockets: etc., etc. etc. If it has anything to do with rockets, we love it!!!! You are guaranteed a few minutes of floor time… so bring your latest projects, questions, ideas, finds, complaints, recipes, clean jokes, ocarina improvisations, etc.
The SoAR Launch at Mill Springs Academy tomorrow has been canceled due to weather. We will try again in two weeks at Dawsonville.
In the meantime you can get rockets ready for Turkey & GRITS!
Registration has started for Turkey and GRITS 2020, a two-day, high power launch at the GRITS field in Tifton, November 28 and 29! Pack some leftover turkey sandwiches and come on down for a weekend of rocket flying! Our altitude limit is 12000 feet AGL. As always, the launch is open and free to all spectators! Tifton and Nashville residents launch free, otherwise launch fee is $20 for one day, $35 for both days. In keeping with the times, social distancing will be practiced and masks must be worn when approaching RSO/launch control/registration — low power pads will be at least six feet apart.
