Those who attended the October launch at Mill Springs were rewarded with fair skies, mild temperatures, and light winds through most of the morning hours. Winds were moderate during the afternoon.
There were a total of 102 launches made. The most popular motor choice was the A8-3 with 22 launches, followed by B6-4 (17), C6-5 (11), and during the time of light winds there were many challenging with various E motors, one F50-4T, a G64-4W, and a G77-4R lofting Steve Bellio’s LOC Stovi through an impressive flight.
Many cluster flights were successfully flown with two, three, and four motors. David Fields launched his scratch built “F12” with a Parallel Boost of two B6-0s detaching in mid-flight with the main rocket streaking skyward on a C6-5 (with video camera attached).
There were a few scale models flown with various results, five well executed flights with helicopter recovery, nine launches were noted as first flights, and a couple of heads-up flights (due to age of the motors or odd design). One flight was dedicated by Roy Green as a Carl McLawhorn Memorial Flight (founder of Semroc Astronautics Corp., who passed away last month). Mary Ana put up the most rockets (9) of which all were very wonderfully finished and flew exceedingly well. We also had a couple of spectacular catoes that were caught on camera. Most interesting rocket names: “Toxic Mess” and “Spool of Destiny.”
