There was a very light turnout to Saturday’s launch at the Mill Springs Academy field, possibly because of the forecast of cold temperatures, or possibly because of confusion over start times (we delayed the start until noon to let the temperatures rise), or maybe people were waiting for the Dragway launch in three weeks. But the weather turned out quite nice for the afternoon, with temperatures ranging from 50 to 60 degrees and generally mild winds that kept us guessing as to their direction. The lacrosse folks were not there and we had the larger 450′ x 1800′ section to ourselves.
There were less than forty flights for the whole day. Eleven of them came from C motors, with seven D flights, eight A and below flights, and four B flights. We had one composite F flight, and one of the new 29mm Estes black powder E motors gave an excellent flight that unfortunately ended up in a tree. We had a couple of two-stage flights, and an Estes Tercel boost glider made two excellent flights.
As a counterpoint to all the A-F motors being flown, Chris Short of Chris’ Rocket Supplies had a display of a couple hundred high power motors available for purchase to certified flyers, and he was able to make a few sales.
