SoAR Launch Sites
Where it all comes together. And goes up.
And comes back down, safely.
Always remember — These fields are private property. We are there as guests.
They may only be used in conjunction with a scheduled SoAR launch.
Mill Springs Academy
We fly here on the second Saturday of every month. This is our low power field (up to D power). That’s not to say experienced rocketeers can’t use larger motors (E, F, and G), but we recommend that altitudes be kept down to around 1000 feet maximum so that you have the best chance to get your rockets back!
Dawsonville / Ball Ground
This is our mid power field (up to G motors) where we usually go on the fourth Saturday of the month. It is hilly, and it is active pasture (i.e. Watch where you step! And smile at the cows!)
GRITS field near Tifton/Nashville, GA
Our big launch of the year, Turkey & GRITS, is held on this field, where we allow high power rockets to fly up to 14000 feet! We usually only fly here once a year, on Thanksgiving weekend, but there may be other opportunities during the year when the field isn’t planted.
Coosa Valley Turf Farm, Centre, AL
SoAR’s latest High Power field features a 9,000 ft AGL ceiling for launches as often as quarterly. And get this, it’s only around 2 to 2-1/2 hours from Metro Atlanta! Follow the signs approximately 1/2 mile to the range head.
